At
the end of the first conference, it was decided that the Pure
Mathematics Conference should take place every year. Therefore,
the 2nd Pure Mathematics Conference 2001, held in Islamabad
during 8-9 August 2001, was organised by Professor Qaiser
Mushtaq and his research group with the help of the Pakistan
Science Foundation and Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
This time the newly established Pakistan Mathematical Society
was also involved in organising the conference. Around 70

It
was the first time that the algebra group in the department
of mathematics at Quaid-i-Azam University felt that there
is a need to stimulate and enhance research in pure mathematics
in particular and mathematics in general in Pakistan. A good
number of pure mathematicians had shown interest in holding
a mathematical activity such as this. Thus a number of senior
Pakistani mathematicians were consulted and their approval
was sought to deliver lectures on the latest research trends
in their fields of interest in the eventuality of holding
such a mathematical activity. It was in this spirit that the
1st Pure Mathematics Conference 2000 (1st PMC 2000), held in
Islamabad on 8th August 2000, was organised by Professor Qaiser
Mushtaq and his group with the help of Quaid-i-Azam University,
Islamabad. |
| |
|
Around
50 mathematicians from different universities and colleges
of Pakistan participated in it. The following mathematicians
gave lectures. |
